The Visualizer: 4 Steps to Design Your Own Doors and Windows
December 14, 2017Many homeowners prefer to start planning their patio doors in their own time and with their own designs, using rough sketches, reference clippings or computer-aided drawings. While preparations like these can help maintain focus and streamline the later stages of the process, not everyone has access to such resources.
Worry not, Renewal by Andersen® has the Visualizer™, a free online tool that can help you design your own patio doors in four steps, as explained below.
STEP 1: Upload Your Photos
Start by taking pictures of your home, preferably during a clear and sunny day. Any camera phone that can take decent pictures and lets you save them on your computer is enough. Take pictures of the sides of your home where you want to install your new patio doors. After taking the photos, open the Renewal by Andersen Visualizer page. You can either try our sample photos just to see how it works or you can proceed with uploading the photos you took.
STEP 2: Prepare Your Photos
Once uploaded, you will have to “teach” the Visualizer, first by stretching a bar over an area that you know the exact measurement of, like your entry door. The Visualizer will then automatically calculate the size of your house in relation to the photo. Next, you will be asked to identify the parts of your photo that include your existing patio doors by highlighting the area.
STEP 3: Start Designing
You can now start designing your new patio doors by choosing among the different style, color and grille options, organized into tabs at the top. You can mix and match these styles, and change anything as you see fit. The main area “installs” your choices as you click them. If you’re considering more than one design, no problem, you can save as many combinations as you want using the same photo.
STEP 4: Save, Print and Share
To save your design, simply click the Review tab. You will have the option to print or save it as a JPEG file or share it via Facebook or Pinterest. In addition to the image, you also get a list of all the options that you chose for your patio doors, including the door style, material and colors.
