4 Factors to Consider When Choosing Patio Doors

4 Factors to Consider When Choosing Patio Doors

November 28, 2018

Choosing the right patio doors sounds simple enough, with only two basic door styles to choose from. Such simplicity is like a blank canvas, though; when you start including factors such as frames and glass, making your choice can become complicated.

Let Renewal by Andersen® of Milwaukee help you simplify your choices with this list of factors you should consider.

  1. Glass Package – Patio doors are mostly made of glass, a naturally conductive material. This counts single-pane glass out of the equation. When installed on something as big as patio doors, it can allow heat to pass through, resulting in heat loss during cold days and heat gain during hot days. More output will be required from your heating and cooling systems, resulting in higher energy consumption. Our double-pane High-Performance™ Low-E4® glass packages solve this problem by eliminating contact between interior and exterior surfaces, dramatically reducing conductivity.
  2. Frames – Patio door frames need to have several qualities to make them a worthwhile investment. They have to be strong enough to hold the weight of the glass, they have to be available in colors and finishes that will fit your home style, and they have to have insulation that matches the glass package. Also, they have to be stable enough to allow for even thermal expansion and contraction so they won’t warp. Our patio doors feature frames with these qualities in mind and can be customized to any design or finish that works with your existing home style.
  3. Patio Door Style – Patio doors can either be hinged French doors or contemporary sliding doors, the choice of which will depend on your requirements. French doors exude a traditional feel, while sliding doors are ideal for modern styles, with slim frames that allow large glass areas.
  4. Operation – Everyone wants easy-to-operate patio doors, as well as ones that won’t get in the way of your daily activities. French doors truly open up your indoor spaces, but will require swing space for them to open. Sliding doors, on the other hand, save space. Renewal by Andersen patio doors are exceptionally easy to operate. We also offer a third option with sliding French doors, which combine the space-saving features of sliding doors and the traditional aesthetics of French doors.

Hear From Our Customers

I cant express how happy we are with choosing Andersen for our window installation. Our sales representative was knowledgeable with product and answered any questions we had without hesitation. I did also fill out a survey that was sent in an email, but sadly I failed to personally name the two gentlemen that performed the actual installation. Barrett and Francisco were our guys, and let me tell you, they were outstanding!!! They did Excellent work and were professional as well as efficient and made this a smooth, none evasive process for us. I strongly recommend this company and these installers to anyone in need of windows!!! My husband and I could not be more pleased we chose Andersen for replacing our windows!!!

This was a great crew to work with. Both the original install manager we worked with (Jay) and the install team (Daniel, Mason, Tony, Ethan, and Jose). Everyone was very professional and knowledgable. They answered all my questions and the end result on the house is great. In 3 days they replaced an old bay window with a new bay window, a set of french doors on the patio with a sliding patio door, and our old front door with a new front door and storm door.

Jason and Brett did an awesome job installing our doors. We had separate installers a month earlier for our windows who also did a fantastic job. They were all very professional and cleaned up almost better than the area looked before the installation! Since these were both jobs that took more than one day the installers were great at keeping us informed on the status of where the project was at along the way.
