Renewal by Andersen® Energy-Efficient Glass Packages
December 07, 2017At Renewal by Andersen®, we regard glazing as one of the most important components of our replacement windows and patio doors. This is why every single replacement window unit we have features High-Performance™ Low-E4® glass, available in three different glass packages.
Here’s a detailed look at each.
Dual-Panel Glazing
One of the challenges of building energy efficient replacement windows and patio doors is the glazing. Glass is a naturally conductive material, and conventional means of insulation would defeat the purpose of having glass panels in the first place. Traditional single-panel glazing has proven to be a problem, as it readily facilitates thermal transfer that leads to heat loss in the winter and heat gain in the summer.
The solution is a dual-panel design. Two glass panels separated by insulated spacers eliminate contact between interior and exterior surfaces, dramatically reducing conductivity. When combined with low-emissivity (Low-E) coatings, dual-panel glazing provides a simple yet effective solution against thermal transfer.
Dual-panel glazing has since become standard on every energy-efficient window style we offer, from the humble double hung window to oversized window walls. Our replacement windows are certified by the National Fenestration Rating Council and ENERGY STAR® for energy efficiency.
Our Glass Packages
As stated above, we offer three glass packages:
- High-Performance Low-E4 glass – Our standard glass packages have advanced features that put them ahead of most dual-panel glazing in the market. The Low-E4 coating blocks up to 84% of harmful UV rays. We fill the space between with an insulating custom argon gas blend. This glass package features up to 45% and 56% more energy efficiency in winter and summer, respectively, compared with ordinary dual-panel glazing.
- High-Performance Low-E4 SmartSun™ glass – Our most energy-efficient glass package features 70% energy efficiency in summer and 49% in winter. If you’re worried about the effects of direct sunlight on your fabrics and furniture, choose this option; it blocks 95% of UV rays while admitting light just like clear glass.
- High-Performance Low-E4 Sun glass – Sometimes natural light can be too bright for comfort. Our High-Performance Low-E4 Sun glass features a subtle tint that tames harsh sunlight without sacrificing energy efficiency.
